Great care starts here.
Behavioral Health Center
Johnson Memorial Health will soon open a new behavioral health care center on the west side of the main hospital campus in Franklin.
This state-of-the art 29-bed inpatient facility will provide vital mental health services to adults 18 and older, addressing a critical and growing need in our community. In fact, this will be only the second nonprofit inpatient behavioral health facility in the entire county.
The Behavioral Health Center is the result of a unique partnership between JMH, Johnson County Commissioners and law enforcement officials. Funding, in part, for the new facility, was made possible by the Johnson County ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) committee.
In-Patient Facility for Those in Crisis
The center will provide individualized treatment for adults experiencing a psychiatric crisis or at risk of causing harm. In partnership with Horizon Health Services, the facility staff will include psychiatric specialists, behavioral health care providers, registered nurses, recreational therapists and social workers. Treatment plans will include multidisciplinary and holistic methods such as group therapy, psychoeducation, family education and counseling, discharge planning and crisis safety. Sophisticated security systems and reduced-ligature furniture will provide a safe environment for patient care.

Helpful Information
The Behavioral Health Unit at JMH will be an adult-only facility, meaning we will accept patients aged 18 and older who are in need of psychiatric stabilization for an acute crisis.
Our patients will come to us from a variety of ways. Primarily they will come through our Emergency Department. We will also accept patients from outside Emergency Departments as well as individuals brought in via police. We will take referrals from outside mental health agencies as well.
While we were not built specifically to service the jail, we will accept patients who are guests of the legal system. This can mean a variety of things, however we will not be able to accept patients who are actively incarcerated.
All of our admissions, no matter where they are coming from, will need to go through our intake coordinators. Our intake team will complete an assessment and then will staff each case with our provider team. Our provider team will decide if the individual is a fit for our program, and if so, our intake team will coordinate the admission to the unit.
If an individual is in need of behavioral health services but the unit at JMH either does not have beds available or is not the right fit, our intake team will assist in connecting the individual with other resources, determined by the unique needs of each patient.
Each patient will be discharged with an outpatient appointment established, as well as connections with other needed resources within the community.
While we are not a substance treatment center, we will accept patients who have a substance use disorder if they are in need of stabilization from an acute psychiatric crisis. We are actively working with substance use treatment centers in our community to have the ability to conduct a smooth transfer of individuals in need of substance use treatment upon discharge from our unit.
