Food allergy
Overview
Food allergy is an unpleasant or dangerous immune system reaction after a certain food is eaten.
Symptoms
Reactions can include digestive problems, hives, or swollen airways. Severe reactions can be life-threatening.
Treatments
Antihistamine drugs treat mild reactions. A severe reaction needs an injection of the drug epinephrine and emergency room care.
