Third trimester pregnancy

Overview

The third trimester of pregnancy can be physically and emotionally challenging. Your baby's size and position might make it hard for you to get comfortable. Define your wishes for labor and delivery in a birth plan.

Symptoms

You might have backaches, shortness of breath, heartburn, hemorrhoids, and varicose veins. You might feel mild, irregular contractions, especially after activity or sex. Anxiety about labor, delivery and parenthood is common.

Treatment

Seek regular prenatal care. You'll be screened for conditions that might need treatment, including gestational diabetes, iron deficiency anemia and group B strep. One dose of Tdap vaccine is recommended during the third trimester.
