Description

Temporary outbreak of inflamed, bumpy, scaly, or itchy patches of skin, possibly with blisters or welts.

Self-care

Self-care includes avoiding harsh soaps and detergents, perfumed soaps or lotions, and known allergy triggers. Nonprescription medicated creams or ointments may help.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a healthcare professional right away if the rash:

  • Occurs suddenly.
  • Spreads quickly.
  • Covers most of the body.

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if the rash:

  • Is persistent.
  • Is painful.
  • Comes with a fever.
  • Oozes yellow or green fluid.
  • Blisters.
