Thirst
Description
The feeling or need for something to drink, often related to dehydration.
Self-care
Self-care includes drinking plenty of water and eating fruits and vegetables, which are high in water. Take in more fluids when exercising, ill or in a hot environment to avoid dehydration.
When to seek immediate medical care
Seek medical care immediately for:
- Extreme thirst.
- Lack of urination.
- Shriveled skin.
- Dizziness.
- Confusion.
When to make a doctor's appointment
Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:
- Have diarrhea for 24 hours or more.
- Can't keep down fluids.
- Sleepier or less active than usual.
