When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Fever
  • Pain
  • Feeling of fullness in the rectum
  • Blood or pus in discharge

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Result of bowel surgery, such as a colostomy
